How to draw a cat step by step for beginners

Firstly, start your drawing with circles. They will be the basis for the body of your cat. Here’s what you need to do.
- Draw a small circle. It will be the head.
- Draw a mid-size circle below. It will be the main part of the body.
- Draw the largest circle below. It will be the lowest part of your cat.
Then join all of the circles with a curving line. It will show the cat’s neck and body in a more natural way. After that, you need to erase any overlapping lines inside of the body.

Let’s proceed to legs. Drawing them involves several ovals.
- Draw an oval which overlaps cat’s body.
- Draw one more oval below. It should be of a smaller size.
- Draw a smooth line to join them together.
- Erase any overlapping lines to make the leg more natural.
- Draw an oval which overlaps the front leg. It will be the second front leg.
- Add a smaller horizontal oval below to draw cat’s back paw.

To understand how to draw a cat, you should use your sense of proportions. Now that you have drawn primary lines, it’s time to proceed to cat’s face, nose, mouth, and ears. This is where you need to take care of proportions.
To draw every detail use simple shapes such as ovals for eyes and nose, triangles for ears.
To depict cats mouth, you will need to draw a curving line. Add a few smooth lines to the cat’s nose. It will be the whiskers.

Your cat is almost drawn. In the end, you need to add a curving tale.
After that erase any overlapping lines. Then you should draw a few more contours to show twists of the cat’s body.
If you draw several wiggly fur lines at the area of the cat’s ears and chest, you will show its fur.
